International Women's Day: GEM + Roots Partnership
GEM is very excited to announce our partnership with Roots Canada in celebration of International Women's Day!
Roots is an iconic Canadian brand and one of the very few female-led, publicly listed companies on the Toronto Stock Exchange. Roots is committed to doing its part to help narrow the gender equality gap.
In March, Roots will donate a portion of proceeds from both the Roots x Emma collection, and its March made-in-Canada mask sales to GEM. Roots is dedicated to creating mentorship opportunities for girls, with both Roots President and CEO, Meghan Roach, and collection collaborator, Emma Knight joining GEM as mentors.
As part of the partnership promotion, GEM girls: Selina, Mathurah and Christina are featured as models wearing the Roots IWD collection t-shirt.
Selina is a GEMgirl from our very first cohort who has just successfully entered the workforce in journalism and communications. She is the Editor-in-Chief of @streetvoicesto, a youth-led online platform that aims to create a voice for marginalized people, and she is a super-talented photographer/videographer.
Mathurah graduated from our 2016-2017 cohort and is currently in her second year at the University of Waterloo studying Systems Design Engineering. Mathurah has leveraged her mentorship experience to nurture her career in business, technology and entrepreneurship. Mathurah is a GEM scholarship recipient.
Christina is a recent GEM Alumna who graduated with the 2019-2020 cohort before enrolling in her first year at OCAD pursuing her dream of becoming a graphic designer. Through her art she gives voice and compassion to people who are struggling. Because of her mentorship experience, Christina is building a support system of women who can help her become a professional graphic designer.
